Reading Offer at Aqueduct
Our Reading Manager at Aqueduct Primary is Victoria Waring.
We follow the RWI phonics programme in school. This begins as soon as the children start school in Reception and encompasses EYFS/KS1 and KS2. The Fresh Start Programme is used for upper KS2 pupils when needed. Please take a look at the RWI website, listed below, for further information.
We have a full range of phonetically decodable Oxford Reading Tree books for children to read in school, e.g. Floppy’s Phonics, Songbirds, Project X and Traditional Tales. We have supplemented these with some phonetically decodable RWI books. Throughout both of these schemes there is a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We also pay for an online subscription. Children can access the online texts through the website link below by entering the username and password.
We invest in the Telford and Wrekin Library Service, which enables us to have a different selection of books each half term and topic books that regularly relate to the themes that are being taught.
We are developing our library areas in school so that children have plenty of inviting spaces to select and share books in.
We also have parent volunteers who give up their time to come in and hear readers. They are given training and support by Miss Waring. We are always looking for parent volunteers so if you are interested please contact the school office on 01952 386210
